Brown Color Combos: Teal

Today I am continuing my brown color combos for fall/winter outfits series with teal, a deep, warm color that creates a rich and elegant color combination when paired with medium to dark browns with either warm or cool undertones. I have 4 teal + brown outfit examples to inspire you in ways to wear the season's trendiest color.
In this post, I am featuring a paisley scarf from my collection that does a wonderful job of bringing colors like brown, beige, rust, and teal together into harmonious, color-integrated outfits. This was probably my most expensive non-silk scarf purchase (though still under $20), but I have zero regrets; it's definitely earned its place in my wardrobe. It has already met my under $1 cost per wear goal, and barring major sartorial catastrophe, a scarf like this will last the rest of life (actually, it will probably outlive us all).

Now, on to the outfits...
Outfit #1: This outfit from last winter starts with a very simple and versatile cold weather base - a column of color created from a brown top, skirt, tights, and boots. That base outfit serves as a backdrop for endless combinations of cardigans/jackets/vests and scarves. In this case, I topped the column with a classic cardigan in a resplendent dark aqua/teal color.

The teal color in the scarf is a bit greener and more muted/dusky than the cardigan, but truly, this is a place where "similar" is just as good as matching...maybe better because it comes across as more modern and sophisticated than matchy-matchy does (though I do still love me some matchy-matchy!). I tied a super-easy overhand knot on my scarf so that it would flow down the center of the body and create visual impact (just like this, only I wrapped it looser at the neck).

Don't the brown, rust, and teal colors look gorgeous together? The variety of textures in this outfit is wonderful too. I think combining layers and textures in outfits is what makes dressing for cold weather so satisfying. (For other ideas for pairing rust and brown, see this post in the series.)

My all-DIY daily bracelet stack started with a paper bead bracelet set I made specifically to coordinate with the paisley scarf (page to bead examples with the second outfit in this post). I added more texture to the stack with bead bracelets I made using stone, wood, frosted glass, and crystals. {bicone paper bead tutorial} {stretch bracelet tutorial}

To match the scarf, I made a pair of bead soup earrings with warm brown and teal glass beads, back-to-back gold bead caps, and cute gold owl charms.

Outfit #2: This outfit resulted from a Style Imitating Art challenge, hence it is one of my infrequent colorblocked-with-no-prints looks! Of course I could wear the paisley scarf with this look too, pulling together the dusky teal, dark brown, and cognac shades, but I do like how the gold layered necklace stands out against the darker backdrop here. This is another inner column of color outfit like Outfit #1 but I switched the role of the brown and teal colors to make teal the column and brown the outer layer.

Outfit #3: This outfit is very similar to Outfit #1 with a different color formula in use. Rather than the inner column of color in that look, I have created an outer column/"suit" with a dark brown zip-up jacket (that I no longer own) and jeans, and I switched the teal color from the outer layer to the top.

Outfit #4: My final outfit is a variant on Outfit #3's outer column/"suit" concept for colder weather and a more casual vibe. I kept the same brown jeans, brown flats, and paisley print scarf but upped the brown jacket to a quilted vest and the teal t-shirt to a multi-tone teal colorblocked sweater. (I know that a normal person would be wearing boots, or at least a higher-vamp shoe, with this outfit, but staying indoors, my feet don't get cold easily.)

Mireille knocked this color combo out of the park recently with a fun look featuring a brown sequined skirt. Check out her post for 3 ways to wear a sequined skirt.
Do you like dark brown with deep shades of teal or would you prefer to pair it with lighter teal tones? Do you have any multi-color accessories that bring together favorite colors in your wardrobe? Do you like to wear the inner column of color? The outer column/"suit"? What layers and/or textures do you particularly enjoy in cold-weather outfits?
